Sandoval sets personal best as Chaps finish eighth at Texas Tech Open

LUBBOCK, Texas – Colby Sandoval set a new personal best in the 8K, finishing 33rd in the event at the Texas Tech Open.

Sandoval’s time of 26:11.24 beats his old personal best time by over one minute, set back at the 2021 DII Preview Meet on the same course. 

As a team, the Chaps finished eighth with a time of 2:19:30.24 and 247 total points. LCU finished above fellow Lone Star Conference member Texas Permian Basin. 

Carlos Barraza finished 48th with a time of 27:05.48, while Tristan Young finished 78th with a time of 28:33.0.

Hagen Sage finished behind Young at 81st with a time of 28:48.4, while Aiden Zingone finished 83rd in his first collegiate 8K with a time of 28:52.3. 

Nathan Goble finished 102nd with a time of 31:10.6 as freshman Angel Avendano finished 105th with a time of 31:22.97 in his first career race. 

The Chaps will head to Hobbs, New Mexico to compete in the NMJC Invitational on Friday, Sept. 23.
