#1. Disconnect the Positive Lead

Since there isn't much distance between the posts, you don't need a long jumper cable. In fact, a smaller jumper cable, about 6 to 8 inches in length, tends to work best for this part of the job, as there's less cable that can get tangled.

#4. Power the Battery

The process for powering the winch motor for this test is similar to jumping a car battery, as you hook one end of a jumper cable up to the battery and another end to the winch motor post labeled "F2." This powers the winch using the battery. If the winch motor is good, the winch should spin in one direction as long as it has power. If the winch shorts instead of spinning, spins sluggishly or makes odd noises, the winch motor is bad. Remove the jumper cable from the winch motor after testing it.

#5. Switch the Jumper Wire and Repeat

Take the jumper wire that's connecting the "A" and "F1" posts, and switch it so it's now connecting the "A" and "F2" posts. Hook up the jumper cable to the battery and the "F1" post to repeat the testing procedure. If the motor fails the test on either post, it has gone bad and could stop working or have a decreased towing capacity. Typically, when a winch motor fails, the most effective solution is buying a new motor to replace it.

This winch can generate extreme forces. Select a location that can withstand the rated capacity without damage or weakening. Steel reinforcement plates may be needed or a certified welder may need to weld on additional bracing depending on the mounting location.

  5. Install the winch using the hardware specified on the specification chart.

  1. Place the Solenoid Box in a suitable place near enough to the winch to allow the cables to be routed properly.
  2. Mark the where the screw holes will be.
  3. Verify that the installation surface has no hidden components or structural pieces that will be damaged before drilling.
  4. Drill pilot holes for the mounting screws.
  5. Secure in place with mounting screws.​
